Fitting adaptors

Fitting shaft adaptors is very similar to fitting a shaft to a traditional club head.
If the adaptor and shaft are prepared and the correct epoxy adhesive is used, fitting an adaptor is a very simple process.
The first step is to ensure that the adaptor is compatible with the head that it is intended to be used in (Just fit the adaptor to the head with no shaft to check) then you need to make sure that the adaptor size (.335", 370" etc) matches the tip diameter of the shaft that you are using. To do this, sand down the top layer of paint on the shaft at the tip (Just area that will be inside the adaptor once fitted) until you get through the paint and then clean the graphite dust off and try to place it into the adaptor. If it is the correct size, it should be a snug fit with some contact on the sides of the adaptor but it shouldn't need forcing. A slightly loose fit is OK but if it is loose to the point where the shaft can sit at an angle to the adaptor, you will need a brass shim or a different adaptor size.
Once you have established that it is the correct adaptor and the shaft is prepared, you need to rough up the inside of the adaptor to give the epoxy something to key to. Use a golf wrench (Or something similar eg. screwdriver, drill bit etc) to scratch the insides of the adaptor all the way around (10 seconds of scratching is enough) then clean away the scrapings with some damp tissue.
With the adaptor and shaft prepared, you are ready to glue them.
Use slow setting epoxy adhesive for example Araldite Ultra 24hr. Other faster setting adhesives are OK but make sure that it is one which states at least a 20 minute setting time or is specifically for golf equipment. Mix the adhesive as per the instructions on the product and apply a layer to both the inside of the adaptor and to the tip of the shaft. If the adaptor uses a ferrule, place the ferrule on to the adaptor and then slide the adaptor onto the tip of the shaft. Rotate the adaptor so that the setting line (Standard setting, number 1 on Titleist etc) lines up with the shaft graphics as this will generally be facing down when fitted. Use some tissue to wipe away excess adhesive then place the shaft with the adaptor on the floor, standing upright in a safe place where it will not be touched until the adhesive is fully cured.
